Chess, Lawsuits & Chess Improvement lead this Week's Headlines
Happy Friday everyone! It again was a relatively slow chess week, although you should definitely check out Duda's game against Giri if you have not already. The most noteworthy tournament taking place is the Meltwater Champion’s Chess Tour. We have plenty of tournaments on the horizon though, including the resumption of the Women’s World Championship Cycle, Tata Steel India, with the FIDE World Rapid and Blitz looming in late December. For my part, I will be taking next week off from link-gathering, as it is a holiday here in the US. I wish a Happy Thanksgiving to those of you in the U.S. and Happy World Cup (football/soccer, not chess) to everyone else, catch you all in 2 weeks- Ben

Chess!
Magnus is mopping up at Champions Chess Tour, but for me the highlight was Duda’s game against Giri. “ I did see (the mate in 9) very, very quickly but you calculate 1,000 times to make sure it’s really checkmate, that I don’t blunder anything, because otherwise it would be a disaster, and it’s very, very nice.” (Leonard Barden for The Guardian) (GM Daniel King’s Powerplay Chess Video) (Peter Doggers for Chess.com)
Congrats to the young wizard, FM Tani Adewumi who earned another IM Norm. “Tani is becoming one of the most visible talents on the American chess scene and is also a fixture at ChessKid.com. His remarkable rise is a testament to what opportunity can do when matched with talent.” (Daaim Shabazz for the Chess Drum)
Improvement/Book Reviews/Misc.
IM John Watson reviews a few books that have been self-published recently (Chess Life Online)
Martin Justesen wonders whether over reliance on “Game Review” functions could be counter-productive to chess improvement (Say Chess Blog)

Good News: Chessbase and the Stockfish Team have settled their lawsuit (Stockfish Blog)
More Good News: GM Anatoly Karpov is recovering from his mysterious injury and is back home (André Schulz for Chessbase News)
Carlsen/Niemann Controversy
GM Anand weighed in on the controversy with a measured take. “There is not going to be any proof.” (Chess 24 Article)
FM Dennis Monokroussos also provides a short update on the controversy (The Chess Mind Blog)
